Krzysztof Kieslowski’s
Decalogue
On many lists of the 100 best movies of all
time, The Decalogue was produced for
Polish TV in 1988. Seeking to interrogate life
as to whether there are any standards by which
to understand its messiness, Kieslowski produced
a series of ten hour-long films correlating
loosely with the Ten Commandments. The first,
usually considered his finest, tells the
poignant story of a university professor and his
young son. A discussion of the movie will follow

As Professor of Theology and Culture at Fuller
