Play and Sketch Contests

Encouraging the creation of new plays has been a part of CITA’s mandate since the beginning of the organization. CITA’s commitment to writers is evidenced by the number of playwrights on the board, the quality of workshops offered at summer conferences, and the number of new plays featured in the competitions.

Winning full-length plays have been performed at professional and educational theatres across the country. Winning sketches serve the church and drama ministry communities. In addition, CITA has published an anthology of new plays (visit our “publications” page on this site).

The winning entries of both contests (play and sketch) will be published in the fall in a special issue of Christianity and Theatre. The writers will retain all production rights. We hope that this publication will result in valuable exposure for the winning writers.

The deadline for the 2010 play and sketch contests has passed – check back here in the summer/fall for information on the 2011 programs.

Winners of the 2010 programs will be posted here by May 1, 2010.
